From 2016 – 2018 one of my freelance positions was as the BID Manager for Clifton Village. A very visible and challenging role that required a high level of interpersonal skills, communication, diplomacy and project management.
It involved developing and delivering a variety of projects and services, whilst maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels and reporting regularly to the BID Board.
I was responsible for ensuring the BID offered exciting events that would promote local businesses, improve commercial viability, and increase footfall. This included working with Bristol City Council, local residents and businesses when planning and delivering large events such as the ‘Christmas Light Switch On’, the ‘Tour of Britain Big Screen’ and ‘CliftonFest’.
I wrote and created content for newsletters, blogs, the website and annual leaflet and organised breakfast clubs and business forums. I was also involved in a special signage project to promote travel to Clifton Village and green initiatives such as the bee-friendly planters and ‘Clifton in Bloom’.
Proactive promotion of the Village was essential, and I worked with PR agencies, Destination Bristol, Bristol City Council, the press, and media to ensure the best interests of local businesses were always represented.
The achievement I am most proud of though is steering the BID through a successful re-ballot and ensuring a further 5-year tenure. Not an easy task in today’s economic climate and after recruiting a new Board I left the BID in a strong position to serve the businesses of Clifton Village.
